Students and authorities of Serwaa Nyarko Girls Senior High School have demonstrated against Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and a Private Developer over encroachment of school’s land.

Over 600 students of Serwaa Nyarko Girls Senior High School today December 15, 2017 hit the principal street of Kumasi to demand removal of containers on the school land.

The Assistant Headmaster of Serwaa Nyarko Girls Senior High School in charge of administration Mr. Clement Asambire in an interview with Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo expressed concerns about the safety of the students due to the activities of encroachers on the school’s land.
According to Mr. Asambire, the students live in constant fear due to the activities of the squatters, who have taken over sections of the school’s land.
He revealed that a Private Developer has placed a very big container of about 40 feet long by the school wall and he claims he has been given permission by the Chief Executive Officer of KMA Eric Osei Assibey Antwi. “He has protested vehemently against the school’s attempt to plant trees. His continuous development and completion of the structures will make criminals have easy access to the school by jumping over the walls. Noise pollution by the private developers and squatters are affecting teaching and learning in the school” he said.

Authorities of the school have petitioned the Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah to intervene.
