Kumasi Asante Kotoko have been handed a single call-up in the 30 man squad announced by the head coach of the senior national team C.K Akonnor on Friday.

The porcupine warriors who had more than three players in the double header friendly matches against Morocco and Ivory Coast have only defender Abdul Ganiyu Ismael in the latest call up.

It coincides with the team's dip in fortunes in the domestic season as they failed miserable when it was time for honours with Kotoko ending the season empty handed.

The Kumasi based side were beaten to the league title by fierce rivals Hearts of Oak and were also dumped out of the MTN FA Cup by Berekum Chelsea in the semifinal stage of the competition.

That has not gone unnoticed as the Black Stars coach handed call up to just one player from the porcupine warriors while league champions Hearts of Oak had the highest of any local team with two players invited.

The Black Stars will play host to Ethiopia at the Cape Coast Stadium on Friday, September 3 before they travel to South Africa for the second game on Monday, September 6, 2021.
