Former Ghana international, Abdul Majeed Waris, has expressed his deep disappointment over the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), calling it "extremely shameful."

This marks the first time in 21 years that Ghana has failed to secure a spot in the tournament.

The Black Stars finished with just three points from six matches in Group F, which included Angola, Sudan, and Niger.

Angola and Sudan claimed the top two positions to qualify for the continental tournament in Morocco next year.

Speaking on JoySports, Waris did not hold back in expressing his frustrations, stating, “Everyone is hurt, and we are not going to feel it that much now, but when it’s time for the tournament, when you see the countries arriving for the tournament and then the joy, happiness that it brings into the country, that’s when the country [Ghana] will feel it more."

He added, “It is something that we are all not happy about.” The Black Stars’ failure to qualify has left many in the country disheartened, with the effects likely to be felt when the AFCON tournament kicks off in Morocco next year.
