Accra Lions were held to a 1-1 draw by Berekum Chelsea at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Legon, following an action-packed second half that saw both sides score within minutes of each other.

After a goalless first half, the game came alive in the second period, with Accra Lions breaking the deadlock through Ali Mohammed, only for Stephen Amankona to respond almost immediately for Berekum Chelsea.

The hosts started the match brightly, creating several early chances. Forward Ezekiel Alladoh nearly found the net with a header from Salman Faris’ cross, and Baba Apiiga’s dangerous corner kick tested the visitors’ defense.

However, it was Berekum Chelsea who came closest to scoring in the first half, as Mezack Afriyie was left one-on-one with goalkeeper David Afful, who produced a crucial save to keep the game level.

After the break, Accra Lions continued to push forward, and their efforts were rewarded in the 59th minute when Ali Mohammed rose highest to head in from a pinpoint corner delivery by Baba Apiiga.

However, the Lions’ lead was short-lived, as Berekum Chelsea hit back just two minutes later. Stephen Amankona controlled a cross from a set-piece, took a touch inside the box, and fired past David Afful to restore parity for the visitors.

In the closing stages, Accra Lions surged forward in search of a winner. Lawrence Setordjie and Remember Boateng delivered dangerous crosses into the box, but the hosts could not find a decisive touch to seal the victory.

The draw leaves both sides with a point each, and Accra Lions will look to build on this performance in their upcoming fixtures as they continue their campaign in the Ghana Premier League.
