The Ghana Premier League (GPL) encounter between Accra Lions and Heart of Lions ended in a goalless draw at the University of Ghana Stadium on Saturday, with both teams unable to find the back of the net despite creating some promising moments.
Accra Lions, eager to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to Holy Stars, started the match brightly.
They controlled possession early on and created the first real chance when Allodoh won a free kick in the second minute after being fouled by Heart of Lions defender Ebenezer Abban.
However, it was Heart of Lions who began to settle into the game from the 15th minute, displaying some fluid play, but failing to pose any significant threat to the home side.
The first half saw both teams struggling to break down each other's defenses. Accra Lions dominated possession but found it difficult to break through Heart of Lions’ well-organized backline, led by Abban and Bismark Anim.
The best chance for the home side came just before halftime when Christian Agyenim Boateng’s shot was saved by Accra Lions goalkeeper Afful.
The second half saw Heart of Lions take a more attacking approach. In the 65th minute, Obeng Junior missed a golden opportunity to score after failing to tap in a cross from Agyenim Boateng.
As the game progressed, both teams made multiple substitutions in search of a breakthrough.
Heart of Lions coach Daniel Nii Adjei brought on Ali Fawzi, replacing Obeng, and made further changes to keep the pressure on, while Accra Lions responded by introducing Edmund Amakye, Lucky Nwafor, and David Akintunde.
Despite the flurry of late chances, neither team could convert, and the match ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
Following this draw, Heart of Lions temporarily moved up to third place in the league with 18 points, while Accra Lions remain in the relegation zone, 16th with just 9 points.
