Accra Lions coach Ibrahim Tanko has lauded his team's historic triumph against Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League, considering it a significant milestone and underlining the importance of securing three points in such a pivotal fixture.

Leading his side to their inaugural victory over the Phobians on Wednesday afternoon, Tanko commended his players for their performance and adherence to the game plan in the challenging encounter of Week 28 in the Ghana Premier League campaign.

"Facing Hearts of Oak, we anticipated a tough encounter. We instructed the boys to stick to their usual game, and indeed, the opportunities would present themselves, which we could capitalize on.

In all, securing three points against Hearts of Oak is commendable," remarked the Accra Lions head coach in a post-match interview.

Despite an encouraging start and several chances created by Hearts of Oak in the first half, they faltered in capitalizing on them, enabling Accra Lions to clinch victory with Ibrahim Issa's goal in the 56th minute.

With this triumph, Accra Lions currently occupy the third position in the Ghana Premier League standings.

Their forthcoming fixture will see them face off against Aduana Stars.

On the contrary, Hearts of Oak find themselves in 12th place after 28 games, eager to rebound in their upcoming matches.

Having suffered five defeats in their last six games, Hearts of Oak are enduring a challenging period for the 2020/21 champions.

They are set to confront Berekum Chelsea in their next match on Saturday, aiming to turn the tide and regain their form.
