Accra Lions defender Baba Salifu Apiiga has expressed his frustration, claiming referee James Taylor unfairly influenced their 1-0 defeat to Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League.
The match, held at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium on Sunday, saw a lone goal from Kotoko striker Albert Amoah, securing victory for the Porcupine Warriors in the matchday five encounter.
Despite their strong performance, Accra Lions were left empty-handed, and Apiiga believes the officiating played a significant role in their loss.
“I don’t see it as a defeat because we played very well against Kotoko,” the 17-year-old left-back stated. "I don’t understand why the referee disallowed our goal."
When asked if the referee’s decisions determined the outcome, Apiiga confidently responded, “Yes! That’s how I see it.”
The young defender voiced his displeasure further, saying, “It’s painful to play and lose unfairly like this. The referee cheated us and made Kotoko carry the day.”
Accra Lions have had a tough start to the season, with three losses, one draw, and only one win in five matches.
Currently sitting 14th in the league, they will look to bounce back when they host Berekum Chelsea at the University of Ghana Stadium for matchday six.
