The total number of active mobile sim cards for voice calls have reached a staggering 41 million subscribers per the latest reports released by the National Communications Authority (NCA) for May 2019.

The May ending data covering mobile voice subscriptions report however reveals that there has been a marginal reduction to what we had in April 2019.

Total penetration rate ending in the month of May was more than 100% showing a high rate of voice call growth in the country.

Mobile operator MTN led the pack with 21.1 million voice calls from active sim cards representing more than 1% hike it had in April this year.

This puts MTN’s market share at 51.42% making it the leader in the voice subscription space with Vodafone following with 10.1% representing a marginal reduction of its numbers in April with a market share of 24.64%.

AirtelTgio had 9.1 million active mobile sim card voice calls however this represented more than 3% reduction to what it had in April this year resulting in a market share of 22.17%.

Globacom had a market share of 1.76% after an increase in its voice subscription by 722,000

Apart from Glo and MTN all other network operators had a reduction in its voice subscription rate.

MTN also led the data market with a little over 15 million with a market share of almost 60% but the report shows that one person may have three to four sim card resulting in the ballooning numbers despite a relatively lower population.
