FOR an actor who blessed our screens with his talent for over four decades, one would have expected a large number of his colleagues at the final funeral rites for Mac Jordan Amartey on Saturday but it was a different story.

The auditorium of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Accra where the burial service was held, was filled with mostly family members, friends, church members and students he taught with just a few actors showing up.

Some of the few actors Graphic Showbiz spotted were Sammy Fisician (President of the Ghana Actors Guild), Oscar Provencal, Mawuli Semevor, Clement Bonney (Mr Beautiful), Prince David Osei, Diana Gbartey, Amanorbea Dodoo, Ice Water and a few Kumawood actors.

When Showbiz got to the forecourt of the State House at about 7:30am where Mac Jordan Amartey was laid in state, some of the actors were already there to pay their last respects to the veteran who brought happiness to many homes with his acting prowess.

A sober Clement Bonney, who even shed some tears told Showbiz that he had to show up to say goodbye to Mac Jordan Amartey whose works inspired him in many ways.

“He is one of the few men I looked up to and learnt a lot from as an actor. I know he is a blessing to me and many others so as he begins his journey of eternity, it is only right that I come here to give him my last reverence,” he said.

At the burial service, glowing testimony was paid to the Who Killed Nancy actor and revealed his true personality away from the screens.

In their tribute, Mac Jordan’s children described him as a strong Christian who taught and led his family in the way of Christ.

“Facial expressions of surprise are the reactions we get when we tell our friends that you are a devoted Christian and quiet at home,” they said.

Again, the tribute disclosed how he turned down juicy offers to advertise for alcoholic beverages as well as feature in political campaigns and gatherings.

For his widow,  Mrs Agnes Naa Dei Amartey, the loss of her husband was too painful because of the love he showed her.

“His love for me was true and divine. Whenever something was wrong and I was unhappy, he made me happy by ensuring the correction was done.

"He was always there for me and dependable. I did my best to match his dedication and tireless devotion to my well being,” her tribute said.

Other tributes read by in-laws, grandchildren, Church of Latter Day Saints, Actors Guild and students from various schools he taught including University Basic School and Osu Home School revealed that he was a disciplinarian and committed to every role he played in life.

Osibisa’s Woyaya, performed by Bountiful Tabernacle Choir of the Lattter Day Saints Church ushered the mortal remains of Mac Jordan out of the auditorium for burial at the Gethsemane Memorial Garden, East Legon, in Accra at 1:00 pm.

The service was conducted by Bishop Chris Ikedi Umunnabike and had Bishop Larry Kitson Mills, Bishop Peter Ewudzie Naizer and Brother Emmanuel Ohene Opare Snr as speakers.

The second of 11 children, Mac Jordan Amartey had his secondary school education at Adonteng Secondary School in the Eastern region and proceeded to Aburi Methodist Teacher Training College.

He started his teaching career with the St Mark’s Primary and Middle School at Chorkor Lanteman where he established himself. He then went on teach at Osu Home School, St Anne’s Preparatory and University Primary School, Legon.

He burst on the movie scene with roles in Thursday Theatre. His endless list of movies include Who Killed Nancy, Cross Fire, You Can’t Laugh, Rejected and many more.

He earned many nicknames such as ‘Sugar Daddy’, ‘Mr Armstrong’, ‘Wexey’, ‘Nnmawu’, ‘Mmusu afa’, ‘Wuzigizem’ and ‘Wupiapia’.

Mac Jordan Amartey is survived by a wife and five sons.
