Ghana's opponent in the AFCON 2017 qualifier, the Amavubi's of Rwanda have sacked their interim coach, Gilbert Kanyankore, just 4 days after his appointment.

The Amavubi's are set to play their last group game against the Black Stars of Ghana on September 3.

Kanyankore, who had named a 23-man squad for the September 3 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Ghana on Monday, said he was shocked at the decision to terminate his service s on the day he and Nshimiyimana had to sign new contracts.

"They have told us that we are no longer Amavubi coaches and we have to respect the decision," A surprised Kanyankore revealed.

"The PS (Rugambwa) called us and said we were no longer part of the coaching staff." He added.

The Amavubi's who are already out of the qualifying stages are only playing against Ghana with pride after being denied the opportunity to qualify for AFCON 2017 finals to be held in Gabon.

The side lost to Mozambique and Mauritius. The sacking was communicated yesterday.

The sacking of the head coach also included Eric Nshimiyimana, who had also been handed the role of Assistant Amavubi Coach last Friday, along with Mulisa, who was already serving in the same role under former head coach Johnny McKinstry.

"We have handed the duties of interim head coach to Jimmy as negotiations with the other two coaches (Kanyankore and Nshimiyimana) didn't go as expected," the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports and Culture, Lt Col Patrice Rugambwa.

The Ministry has since appointed their Former player, Jimmy Mulisa, to handle the team until the appointment of a substantive coach.
