Former Black Stars striker, Anthony Yeboah says that it will only take a miracle for the Black Stars of Ghana to win the African Cup of Nations title.

He says that in football one can never say never but does not see this current crop of Black Stars players breaking the forty year wait for the holy grail.

Ghana is seeking to end the almost four decade wait for the African Cup of Nations trophy when the 33rd edition kicks off in Cameroon this weekend.

The Black Stars have not won the biennial tournament since last winning in Libya in 1982 although the Ghana team has gone close three times in 1992, 2010 and 2015 but lost all finals to neighbours Ivory Coast and Egypt.

Many Ghanaians have lost faith in the team after their dismal showing in the only preparatory game against African Champions Algeria in Qatar on Wednesday.

Despite his pessimism, the former Leeds United striker has not ruled out Ghana springing up a surprise at the tournament.

''It will be difficult for Ghana to win the AFCON but everything is possible in life, so we should pray behind the team. To me, we cannot win the trophy with this team but anything can happen in football,'' Yeboah told Onua TV

''We’ve had several good players but we were unable to win the title. I believe if we are able to organize things well, anything can happen.''

Ghana is in Group C of the tournament with the likes Morocco, Gabon and Comoros and will play its opening game on Monday 10th January,2022.
