The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the African Games has issued a response to claims made by Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, regarding the planned expenditure for the upcoming multi-sport event.

In a press release circulated on Monday, the LOC addressed what it described as a misrepresentation of facts by Mr. Ablakwa.

The LOC clarified that the operational budget for hosting the African Games encompasses expenses beyond the 18 days of the event.

Contrary to Ablakwa's claims, the committee stated that the allocated sum of $48 million is not designated for expenditure solely during the duration of the games. Instead, it covers recurrent expenditures associated with organizing and hosting such a large-scale event.

According to the statement, the $48 million budget encompasses various essential costs, including those related to medical services, anti-doping measures, transportation, accommodation, catering, branding, games management systems, preparation of Team Ghana, broadcasting, and equipment for the different sporting disciplines involved.

Emphasizing the significance of hosting the African Games, the release underscored it as a unique opportunity for Ghana to exhibit its capabilities and potential on the continental stage.
