Aggrieved teachers call off protest after GES promises to pay salaries by July
24th June 2025
Aggrieved teachers from the 2022 batch of Colleges of Education graduates have suspended their picketing at the Ghana Education Service (GES) headquarters following assurances that their outstanding salaries will be paid by the end of July.
On Monday, June 23, 2025, the teachers gathered at the GES headquarters to protest months of unpaid salaries and delays in the issuance of staff identification numbers.
Speaking to Citi News on Tuesday, June 24, the group’s spokesperson, Eric Darfuor, said the protest was paused after the GES Public Relations Officer assured them that their concerns were being addressed and that payments would begin by the end of next month.
“The PRO said there has been an official communiqué from GES, so we have suspended our picketing for now, and we are hoping to receive our salaries by the end of July. The PRO said they are at the final stage of resolving our issue, so very soon we will receive our salary."
“So we are waiting and waiting for the very soon, by the end of July, so when the time is due, and we do not hear anything from them, we will come back again stronger," he said.
The group says it will continue to monitor progress and is prepared to resume protest actions if the GES fails to deliver on its promise.
