The organisers of the West African Challenge Cup Aubey Sports and Monange Promotions have sent "a big" congratulatory message to Accra Hearts after the Phobians won the 2020/21 Ghana Premier league to confirm their participation in the maiden tournament in Benin.

A joint statement by the organisers ahead of next month's tournament gives a tap at the shoulders of the Phobians for ending an 8 seasonal league misses in 12 years.

It came just hours after Coach Samuel Boadu's boys drew with city rivals Liberty Professionals at the Accra Sports stadium to open a 4 points lead to win the league with a match to spare.

The Phobians were already listed among the teams to participate in the maiden West African Challenge Cup when they looked favourites to win the league with two matches left.

But Sunday's draw with Liberty ensured the choice was right and the organisers have wished them well in the tournament, which is meant for League Champions.

"A big congratulations to Accra Hearts of Oak for winning the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Title," the statement read.

"After 12 years of wait, you have made it possible through hardwork to win your 21st Ghana Premier League Title.

"Ayekoo Hearts of Oak and Rainbow family. We wish you all the best in the upcoming West African Challenge Cup"

By wining the league, the Phobians have booked their place in next season's CAF Champions League, a competition they last partook in 2006.

Playing in the West African Challenge Cup,on the other hand, will serve as a preparatory grounds for the team as they try to repeat the year 2000 continental feat.

The West African Challenge Cup is a preseason tournament being organised by Aubay Sports & Monange Promotions to bring Champion clubs from West and Central African countries together in one competition.

The tournament is expected to unite our football teams and open up footballing possibilities for all who are involved.
