President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has declared Monday, July 2, 2018 a statutory public holiday.

This is to mark the country’s 58th republic day which falls Sunday July 1, 2018.

In view of the fact that this year’s republic day falls on weekend (Sunday, July 1) President Nana Akufo-Addo has pushed it to Monday, a statement from the Interior Ministry said.

“In view of the fact that 1st July, 2018 falls on a Sunday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana has by Executive Instrument (E.I), declared Monday, 2nd July, 2018 as a Public Holiday to be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement read in part.

Ghana on July 1, 1960 became an independent republic having gained independence from the British in March 6, 1957.
