The assurances from the President,  Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo not to appoint Ministers exceeding eighty-five (85) to serve in his second term government as a way of protecting the country’s purse from reckless expenses is a diktat.

“Looking at the number of Ministers the President has to appoint from parliament, I wonder if he will get them if he chooses to go with more Ministries…he has no choice but to downsize his government”, according to businessman Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike.

A statement released on Thursday, January 21 said seven Ministries, namely Aviation, Business Development, Inner City and Zongo Development, Monitoring and Evaluation, Planning, Regional Re-organisation and Development, and Special Development Initiatives, have been realigned

“If this is not done, we are going to see more of NPP MPs as Ministers and Deputy Ministers and that will not help the smooth running of the Akufo-Addo’s government. It is a smart way the President has adopted. He has no option than to cut down the number of ministries as done”, the founder of United Progressive Party (UPP) reacted to the statement on major news bulletins in Kumasi monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

“The only way the President can make his government work effectively for him is reduce the ministries so that he will have the required numbers to be Ministers and Deputy Ministers”, he added

President Akufo-Addo has decided that there will be no Deputy Regional Ministers in his government, a move that has been lauded by section of Ghanaian populace.

The President also intends to appoint a Minister for Public Enterprises, who will be operating directly under the ambit of the Presidency, and not from a Minister to oversee a major restructuring of the entire state-owned enterprise’s sector to improve the productivity and profitability of the sector.
