Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Evans Opoku-Bobie has been named caretaker minister for the newly-created Bono East Region until a substantive minister is appointed.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo made the announcement at a ceremony to present Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) 113 for the creation of the Bono East Region at the Jubilee House.

Mr Akufo-Addo also chose Techiman as the capital of the new region despite protests by some chiefs and people of Nkoranza against it.

Mr Akufo-Addo, however, assured the people that development of the Bono East Region will be spread across all the towns and villages.

The president of the now Bono East Regional House of Chiefs said at the ceremony that: “The competition for the capital cannot and will not divide us”.

The creation of the Bono East Region, together with five others, was a campaign promise of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the 2016 elections.
