The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has shot down possibility of a debate between their flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo and President John Mahama.

According to the parliamentary candidate for Ledzokuku constituency, Dr. Oko Boye, their flagbearer will not debate the President even on social media platform Whatsapp.

The move by President Mahama, he stated on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme is nothing but to test his popularity ahead of the December 7 polls.

President Mahama has sounded his preparedness to take on the three-time leader of NPP on significant issues affecting the country.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Ho-based Volta Star Radio in the Volta Region Thursday, the President said Ghanaians deserve a debate between himself and Akufo-Addo to have the perceived crisis in the economy resolved.

President Mahama said the platform would afford them the opportunity to demonstrate to Ghanaians with facts and figures why the position they hold about the economy should be accepted as the truth.

But Dr. Oko Boye wondered why the President would call for a debate when the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) had turned down an invitation by Accra-based think tank, Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) to partake in the 2016 Presidential Debate.

“Why call for a debate now when IEA offered you a platform? Nana Addo will not debate him even on whatsapp” he stated.

The aspiring MP could not fathom why the President has relegated the bread and butter issues confronting Ghanaians to the background is calling for a debate just few months to the elections.

Dr. Oko Boye said the NPP remains focused to win the December polls to bring respite to Ghanaians languishing in abject poverty under the Mahama-led government.
