Alan Kyerematen, the Presidential Candidate for the Movement for Change, is trending on X after expressing his disappointment with former President John Agyekum Kufuor for praising Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and endorsing his candidacy.
Alan Kyerematen, in a widely shared video, criticised his former boss, ex-President Kufuor, shocking his interviewer in the process.
"President Kufuor is an old man; I take him as my uncle. I don't want to attack him in public. But what he has done has created a big blot on his political career. You see how people are attacking him now? Someone who has had a distinguished political career and is widely respected—how come he is now meddling in such matters, allowing people to attack him in this manner?
"He is my uncle, but what he is doing is not right. He should put a stop to that. If you are an elderly person and are being advised against doing something wrong, you must heed the advice and stop," he said.
However, his outbursts have triggered strong responses, especially in the form of rebuke from Ghanaian netizens, many of whom believe his criticisms of Kufuor were unwarranted.
Critics contend that Alan should have moved on and refrained from letting his emotions take over during such a critical period ahead of the elections.
They further argue that Alan's grievances against the NPP are baseless, as he personally severed ties with the party to run as an independent candidate after his defeat in the NPP's presidential primaries.
On the other hand, some critics believe his grievances are valid, asserting that Alan's supporters were once aligned with Kufuor, and that Kufuor's endorsement of Dr. Bawumia could lead to a loss of support for him.
