Fenerbahce defender Alexander Djiku has shared his remarkable journey from watching the Black Stars as a teenager to becoming an integral member of the team.

Born in the South of France, Djiku decided to represent Ghana internationally after years of consideration and has since become a pivotal figure in the national squad.

Djiku played a crucial role in helping the Black Stars qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, showcasing his defensive prowess during key matches.

The 29-year-old delivered solid performances as Ghana triumphed over Mali and the Central African Republic in the June international window.

Reflecting on his path to the national team, Djiku expressed his deep connection to the Black Stars, which began when he watched them compete in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

"I didn’t miss one game during that amazing run," Djiku told FIFA. "At national camps, I rub shoulders with Andre Ayew, who was part of that team."

Djiku continued, "Sometimes I still find it hard to believe how I got here, but I don’t spend too much time thinking about it and try to enjoy every moment with the squad, because it truly is an honour to be part of the Black Stars."

Djiku's journey from fan to player highlights his dedication and passion for Ghanaian football, and his contributions continue to inspire both teammates and supporters alike.
