The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Tema West in the upcoming 2024 general election, Dennis Amfo Sefa, has strongly denounced the violence that disrupted the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun, calling it a "dangerous precedent" allegedly set by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
His comments come after a violent incident earlier in the day when a group of unidentified thugs stormed a polling station at St. Peter’s Methodist Church, halting the voting process and assaulting key NPP figures.
Among those attacked were NPP parliamentary candidate Nana Akua Afriyie and former Minister for Fisheries, Hawa Koomson.
Speaking to Channel One News, Mr. Amfo Sefa accused the NDC of using violence as a tactic to manipulate electoral outcomes.
“This is a sad and dangerous precedent that is being set by the NDC. Over the years, whenever there is a by-election, we in the NPP conduct ourselves democratically,” he stated.
When Channel One's journalist, Hanson Agyemang, reminded him of similar violence during the 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, Amfo Sefa didn’t back down.
“Is that to say we should continue? If that is what you are saying, then it means we should prepare for Akwatia. We have to arm ourselves and get ready. And we will repeat it there,” he warned.
Amfo Sefa issued a call to action for NPP supporters, saying, “We are telling our boys and men: get ready, arm yourselves, and prepare for Akwatia. We will meet there and repeat the same thing that they [the NDC] have done in Ablekuma North.”
