Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew has sang the praises on legendary former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah for his outstanding leadership qualities.

Stephen Appiah led Ghana to three World Cup tournaments in Germany in 2006, South Africa in 2010 and Brazil in 2014.

He was the first captain to qualify Ghana to its first World Cup in Germany in 2006 and Ayew says he learnt a lot from Appiah innate leadership qualities while they were teammates at the Black Stars.

According to Ayew, Appiah's charisma and love of Ghana made him very good on the pitch and also gave him a lot of control on the squad.

“I think he is someone who had the charisma, the love of Ghana and was also marvelous on the field. This allowed him to control everything that was happening in the squad,”- Andre Ayew told Joy FM.

“The first time I came into the Black Stars he was the leader and I really watched him and took a lot from him because he had that thing [leadership qualities] he did not learn, it’s a gift by God. That’s why he was able to achieve all that he achieved” – he added.
