NEW DELHI: Apple has once again managed to beat Google with its software updates. As per the latest data released by the company, iOS 12 the latest version of the operating system is running on majority of iPhones, iPads and iPod touch devices.

On January 1, iOS 12 is running on 78% of Apple mobile devices which were released over past four years. Only 17% devices are running iOS 11 and 5% on version earlier than iOS 11.

As reported by MacRumors, the adoption of iOS 12 is much faster as compared to that of iOS 11. At the beginning of 2018, iOS 11 was running on 65% devices.

On the other hand, as always Android is fragmented across versions. Android Nougat which was released in 2016 holds the top spot by running on 28% devices. This is followed by Android Oreo and Marshmallow which are running on 21% of Android devices. The latest Android 9.0 Pie which was introduced last year is available on less than 0.1% devices. This clearly shows that once again Apple has managed to beat Google in terms of software updates.

Recently, it was reported that iPad users who are on iOS 12.1.2 are facing some issues with their device. “@AppleSupport If I try to set up a new iPad via iCloud backup, but my iPhone is already on iOS 12.1.2, am I stuck? iPad is only up to iOS 12.1.1 and can’t restore from iOS 12.1.2,” tweeted Techradar US’ senior editor Matt Swinder. The Cupertino-based tech firm’s Apple Support page on Twitter confirmed the existence of the issue. “You're correct. You would not be able to restore a backup from an iOS version later than what's currently installed,” it said in a direct message.
