Ruler of the Anlo state, Torgbe Sri III the Awoamefia, has called on President Akufo-Addo to construct a harbour in his community.

According to the chief, he will be very delighted to see a harbour built for his people before he joins his ancestors.

Torgbe Sri III the Awoamefia made the statement during this year’s Hogbetsotso festival at Anloga.

He also lamented the high rate of unemployment in the Anlo community, insisting farmers are struggling.

He, therefore, appealed to government to speed up the process of building a factory in the community so that farmers can store their produce.

“The youth in Anlo are unemployed due to lack of factories. Tomatoes of farmers continue to rot away since we don’t have a means of preserving them,” Torgbe said.
“A factory in this municipality would have salvaged this situation and bring some relief and cash to our farmers. I’ve been dreaming of a harbour for ages now and it will be my joy that I see one built for my people before I leave this earth.”

The influential chief further spoke about the bad nature of roads in the Volta Region, calling on government to do something about the situation.

According to him, most roads in the region are “are in very terrible state and it will be proper you fix them for us”.

He added: “I wish to suggest that the establishment and equipping of skills training centres such as Woe ICCEs, Vocational/Technical Training centre and support for skill-oriented jobs in our region, districts and communities will greatly ease the current pressure on the central government for the provision of job avenues.”

In attendance at this year’s Hogbetsotso festival were the Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Kofi Dzameshi, former president John Dramani Mahama and other high-ranking politicians in the country.
