Anthony Baffoe, founder of the Professional Football Association of Ghana (PFAG), has emphasized the importance of education for young footballers during his address at the 2024 Afro Sport Summit in Accra.

Baffoe, a former CAF Deputy General Secretary and Black Stars defender, encouraged players to balance their football careers with educational pursuits.

Highlighting the opportunities available in today's digital age, Baffoe stressed that online platforms offer accessible routes to educational certifications, making it easier for players to gain knowledge while continuing their sports careers.

“Young players today are very lucky,” he remarked, noting that the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the feasibility of working and studying remotely.

“You can spend one hour on Instagram, you can spend one hour learning a course online. Don’t wait until your career is ending.”

Baffoe also challenged the outdated perception in Africa that football is a career for those lacking intelligence, asserting that this view has evolved significantly over the years.

His message underscores the belief that every individual, regardless of their educational background, possesses immense potential that can be further developed through education.
