Black  Stars new boy Antoine Semenyo did not travel with the squad for their second group game of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers against Central African Republic.

There were lots of reports that the attacker is returning to England to complete a transfer move but our sources  is that the player did not travel with the Black Stars due to a shin injury.

As a precaution, the technical team decided to leave him out of the Central African Republic match and the Kirin Cup in Japan.

Semenyo was outstanding for the Robins last season, racking up eight goals and 12 assists in 31 Championship games, naturally making him one of the most coveted talents outside the top flight.

Chelsea have been interested in the past and Premier League new boys Nottingham Forest had a bid turned down in January, with the Robins braced for more offers this summer.

The club's financial position may tempt City to sell Semenyo in the upcoming transfer window, which opens next week, but claims that the dynamic forward's exit is imminent are premature.

City are not without power in the situation. The player has a year remaining on his contract, plus the club holds a one-year option. Coupled with the sense that Semenyo is unlikely to agitate for a move, the Robins can set their price high – £20million was quoted in January – and make plans to have him involved when the new campaign kicks off at the end of July.

Antoine Semenyo made his long awaited Ghana debut on Wednesday evening when Ghana faced minnows Madagascar in the opening game of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifier at the Cape Coast Stadium.

He came on in the 76th minute as replacement for scorer of the second goal Felix Afena-Gyan and showed flashes of what he can do.
