Ghanaians went to the polls on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, to elect Assembly and Unit Committee members to represent them in the District levels.

District Level Elections give Ghanaians in the grassroots the opportunity to play a direct role in development agenda of the country.

The nationwide election ended 5pm in 6,700 electoral areas across the country.

However, it has emerged that some 7 electoral areas in the Aowin Municipality of the Western North region boycotted the DLEs, with reasons that their roads were not in good shapes.

The communities include; Assemkrom, Jema, Boinso, Kwahu, Serwum, Nkwanta and Kramokrom.

It will be recalled that our correspondent on grounds, Ali Asumana (Authentic), on Monday night filed that the agitated residents blocked roads leading to the towns to prevent the Electoral Commission (EC) from sending election materials there.

The aggrieved residents, who spoke to Authentic said, they have been cut off from Ghana and the rest of the world following the bad nature of their roads.

According to them, they have suffered for far too long and a time had come when they have to wake up and tell the authorities that 'enough is enough'.

They have since threatened to boycott subsequent national exercises including the 2020 general elections if they do not see any improvement on the roads.

Authentic said voter turnouts in many of the polling stations in the Municipality he visited were extremely poor.

Meanwhile, the people of Ekumfi Immuna in the Ekumfi District of the Central region also refused to exercise their civic responsibility in a protest against bad roads.
