NEW DELHI: Apple has just launched its Smart Battery Case for its 2018 series of iPhones -- iPhone XS, XS Max and XR --and officially mentioned that the new case doesn't support the older iPhone X. However, it turns out that the Smart Battery case for the iPhone XS reportedly works with the iPhone X too.

While the iPhone X and XS have an identical design and form factor, it was expected that the case should support the older flagship too. But with Apple officially mentioning otherwise, the editor of iMore website Rene Ritchie took to Twitter to prove that the new case indeed works with the iPhone X.

Of course, the fit is not perfect but something you can still live with. But the moment you put the new smart case on the old iPhone X, you will get a pop-up message saying that the accessory is not compatible. However, if you ignore the notification or choose to restart the iPhone, the new case works fine.

Apple has confirmed to Gadgets Now that the new cases will be making their way to India as well, even though there is no official word on the pricing or availability of the latest iPhone accessory. All three cases are priced at $129 (Rs 9,100 approximately) and in Black and White colour options.

The Smart Battery Case is compatible with Qi-certified chargers, which means iPhone users can wirelessly charge iPhone and the battery case separately or simultaneously. The case can also charge via Lightning cable or fast charge with USB-PD compatible chargers. The company claims that the cases come integrated with iOS, and shows the status of charges battery charge on the display of the iPhone lock screen and in Notification Center. The iPhone XS Max Smart Battery Case has a claimed talk time of up to 37 hours, internet use up to 20 hours and video playback up to 25 hours.
