NEW DELHI: It seems that Apple is really having a tough time. A new report has surfaced online which reveals that Apple has dismissed more than 200 employees. As reported by CNBC, Apple has reportedly laid off people from its autonomous car team called 'Project Titan'.

The report also adds that an Apple spokesperson has also acknowledged the job cuts. The spokesperson said, "We have an incredibly talented team working on autonomous systems and associated technologies at Apple. As the team focuses their work on several key areas for 2019, some groups are being moved to projects in other parts of the company, where they will support machine learning and other initiatives, across all of Apple."

He further added, "We continue to believe there is a huge opportunity with autonomous systems, that Apple has unique capabilities to contribute, and that this is the most ambitious machine learning project ever."

Last year in August, Apple hired Tesla engineering vice president and Apple veteran, Doug Field in order to lead the autonomous car unit. Project Titan has always been a secretive Apple project which was launched in 2014. The company never released any official information about its operation. Last year it was disclosed that the company has around 5000 people under this project.

An earlier report quoting Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that the company is working on the Apple Car and it expected to launch in between 2023 to 2025. However, with this latest development it is not clear as to what will happen to the company's autonomous car project.
