Apple is getting ready for its special Monday event where it is expected to unveil two new services. The new offerings are set to redefine Apple as ‘services’ company as its iPhone sales continue to decline in key markets. Hours before Apple’s grand event, details about the two new subscription services have emerged.
Apple will be taking on the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime Video with its own ‘Apple TV’, a new streaming application, not to be confused with the streaming dongle offered with the same name.
According to a WSJ report, Apple TV video streaming service will give users access to content from service providers such as HBO, Showtime and Starz for a monthly subscription of $9.99 (Rs 700 approximately) per month. Apple is expected to launch its own original content on the platform as well. Some Apple staffs are reportedly hailing the new platform as Netflix-killer. Interestingly enough, Netflix is not going to be part Apple’s new platform.
Apple’s News subscription service will be quite similar to the Apple TV. It will feature more than 200 magazines and content from top newspapers. The premium Apple News will also be available for a monthly subscription of $9.99 (Rs 700 approximately) per month. Apple News is expected to be quite similar to Texture magazine app which Apple acquired last year.
Apart from video streaming and Netflix-like news platforms, the company is said to be working on a new gaming service with similar subscription model. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple won’t be competing with Google’s Stadia or Microsoft’s Project xCloud but will be more a basic bundle of paid games from different studios which users can access for a monthly fee.
