A former Municipal Chief Executive for Ejisu-Juabeng in the Ashanti Region, Afrifa Yamoah-Ponkoh has been picked up by Ashanti Regional police command.

According to reports from the Ashanti Region, the erstwhile John Mahama appointee was picked up on Tuesday February 19, 2019 by 15 armed security men in two police vehicle.

The policemen were said to have stormed his Fumesua residence and picked the politician in what seem to be in connection with Monday's fatal shooting at the Regional Office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kumasi.

The Ashanti regional police command on Monday declared four persons wanted in connection with the shooting incident.

One person was shot dead and another in critical condition at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after some gunmen disrupted a meeting between NDC executives and party members on Monday, February 18.

The police preliminary investigations suggest that the assailants are members of ‘The Hawks’, a vigilante group associated with the opposition NDC in the Ashanti Region.

Members of the vigilante group are said to have appeared at the Ashanti regional NDC office on motorbikes and fired gunshots which ended up killing one and leaving one injured while the NDC executives ran for cover.
