General captain of the Black Stars Asamoah Gyan has made a shock move to sign for Indian Super League (ISL) side NorthEast United having played for top teams in thew world.

Gyan will move to the ISL when the upcoming season starts on the 20th October ,2019  for NorthEast United.

Ghana's all time leading goalscorer and most capped player is a free agent since terminating his contract with Turkish side Kayserispor in the summer.

“We are thrilled to have a player of Gyan’s calibre and experience join our squad," speaking on the signing of the Ghana star , NorthEast United’s Executive Director, Priya Runchal said.

"He has continuously delivered excellence at the highest of levels of world football and we are confident that he will add a lot of firepower on the pitch here.”

Gyan said: “I am extremely excited to start this new chapter in my career. I have heard great things about NorthEast United FC and the Indian Super League and I am thrilled to be a part of it for the upcoming season.

"I am confident that we can better the wonderful season the club had last year."

The well traveled Gyan has had stints with Udinese, Sunderland, Al Ain, Shanghai SIPG and Kayserispor.

Signed in 2010 from Rennes, the Ghana captain became a hit in the Premier League after scoring memorable goals but surprisingly left just two years later to join Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates.

Gyan joined the Black Cats from Rennes in 2010 and went on to score double figures for the club before leaving to join UAE Pro-League side Al Ain in 2012.

Gyan, who made 37 appearances for Sunderland after making a £13million move to England, currently plays for Kayserispor in Turkey.

He smashed 123 goals in 120 games before a lucrative move to Shanghai SIPG of the Chinese Super League.

Gyan joined Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai but he returned to Turkey last year where his fortunes have nosedived.
