Former Ghanaian captain Asamoah Gyan has shrugged off criticism surrounding his recent appointment to serve on Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia's 2024 campaign team.

Gyan, who now joins the Manifesto Committee of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearer for the upcoming elections, will spearhead the "Youth and Sports" manifesto sub-committee, actively advocating the sports aspect of Dr. Bawumia's manifesto upon its completion.

Despite his acceptance onto Bawumia's team drawing mixed reactions from Ghanaians, with some questioning the decision, Gyan remains undeterred.

"They have their own opinions," remarked Gyan during the inauguration of the NPP's Campaign Team for the 2024 general elections at Alisa Hotel.

Drawing from his extensive experience, Gyan emphasized his readiness to contribute positively, notwithstanding public scrutiny.

"I have been there [before]. I have been to stadia, been booed in front of 80,000 people; I am used to it," he reflected.

Confident in his abilities, Gyan expressed his commitment to leveraging his 20 years of experience to make a meaningful impact.

"At the end of the day, the work shows," he asserted. "I have confidence in myself and I know what I can do to help. I am here to contribute because of my experience. I can't just sit at home and keep it. I have to share it with the new generation for their benefit."

Acknowledging that criticisms are inevitable, Gyan maintained a positive outlook, highlighting their role in driving personal and collective improvement.

"At the end of the day when everything is said and done, we see what we did or what we couldn't do," he noted.

"The criticisms will come, but they also motivate me and my team to push harder."

As part of the committee's mandate, Gyan and his colleagues will conduct a comprehensive review of the party's previous manifestos from the 2016 and 2020 elections, ensuring a robust and forward-looking platform for the upcoming campaign.
