Asante Kotoko defender Esmat Abdalhamid Hassabalbagi is facing a significant period on the sidelines after successfully undergoing foot surgery due to an injury sustained during the club's recent Ghana Premier League match against Young Apostles.
The Sudanese left-back has been an essential part of Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum's squad during the first two games of the season.
Initially, the injury seemed minor; however, further evaluations by the club’s medical team in Kumasi revealed that surgical intervention was necessary.
The procedure took place on September 27, 2024, at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where skilled surgeons performed the operation.
Esmat is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of six weeks as he begins his recovery process.
Asante Kotoko is currently preparing for their matchweek 4 fixture against Berekum Chelsea at Golden City Park on Sunday, and they will have to adjust their tactics without their regular left-back as they strive to maintain their strong start to the season.
