Asante Kotoko's strong start to the season hit a snag on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by newly promoted Basake Holy Stars at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park.

Expectations were high for this matchup, particularly given that former Kotoko assistant coach Abdulai Gazale is now at the helm of the home side.

Kotoko took the lead in the 34th minute when red-hot striker Albert Amoah scored with a sublime finish.

However, the Porcupine Warriors couldn't hold on to their advantage, as Prince Tweneboah equalized for Basake Holy Stars in the 81st minute.

As a result, Kotoko remains in second place on the league table with 15 points, trailing leaders Gold Stars FC by three points.
