James Kwesi Appiah, a member of the Asante Kotoko Interim Management Committee, has shed light on the club's strategic shift away from prioritizing winning the Ghana Premier League title this season.

Instead, the focus is squarely on building a strong foundation for the future, in line with the directives from the club's owner, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Appiah acknowledged the team's challenging start to the campaign but highlighted significant improvements as the first half of the season progressed.

He emphasized that the team has learned from its early mistakes and is poised to deliver a better performance in the upcoming second round of the league.

However, Appiah made it clear that clinching the league title is not the primary objective at the moment.

He stressed, "If we win, it's a bonus, but it won't deter us if we fall short. Our primary focus is on nurturing a team for the long term."

Asante Kotoko recently secured their first silverware of the season by defeating Nsoatreman FC 2-1 to claim the inaugural J.A Kufuor Cup at the Baba Yara Stadium.

This victory marked a positive step in the club's journey towards building a competitive and successful team.

Despite the altered focus, Appiah remains optimistic about Kotoko's prospects in the league's second half.

He acknowledged the team's earlier struggles but expressed confidence in their ability to bounce back.

"We had a slow start to the season, but we've learned from our mistakes and are determined to avoid complacency. We'll give our all in the second round," he affirmed.

Looking ahead to the upcoming league fixture against Heart of Lions, Appiah anticipates a challenging contest but assures that Kotoko is prepared for the battle.

"It's going to be a tough game, but we're ready for the challenge.

We'll approach it with caution and aim to secure maximum points," he concluded, highlighting the team's readiness to face any obstacle on their journey to future success.
