Ghana FA Cup champions Asante Kotoko have officially terminated the contracts of five first-team players following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, as part of a broader squad overhaul ahead of the new campaign.
Among the notable exits is club captain Justice Blay, whose contract expired at the end of the season. The midfielder was not offered a renewal due to disciplinary issues, sealing his departure from the club.
Also departing is Michael Kyei Dwamena, the former WAFA midfielder, who leaves after a three-year stint with the Porcupine Warriors, culminating in an FA Cup win during the 2023/24 season.
His contract expired on June 10, 2025.
Nigerian forward Fernando Wisdom Bassey, who joined from Sporting Lagos in August 2024, has also been released after a disappointing campaign. Despite completing pre-season with the club, Bassey managed just one goal in 16 Premier League appearances.
In addition, Daniel Adrian Adjetey, Kwasi Asante, Samuel Tenadu, and Sampson Eduku, all of whom were brought in during the second half of the season, have been deemed surplus to requirements by the technical team and will not continue with the team.
Meanwhile, the club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) is currently in negotiations with key players including goalkeeper Frederick Asare, Andrews Ntim Manu, and Baba Yahaya over potential contract renewals.
In preparation for the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup, where they will represent Ghana, Kotoko are actively pursuing reinforcements. Talks are ongoing with players such as Hubert Gyau, Zakaria Fuseini, and Francis Acquah as they look to bolster the squad for both domestic and continental campaigns.
The shake-up reflects the club’s intent to build a stronger, more disciplined side capable of competing at the highest level, following a season that ended with FA Cup glory but inconsistencies in league performance.
We can confirm the departure of Fernando Wisdom Bassey, Sampson Eduku and Daniel Adrian Adjetey from the club by mutual termination.
We wish them the best for the future. #AKSC #Fabucensus #Kotoko4All pic.twitter.com/zFhyElIthP
