Asante Kotoko suffer fourth consecutive defeat to Nations FC as crisis deepens
18th November 2024
Asante Kotoko's struggles in the Ghana Premier League continued with a 2-0 defeat to Nations FC at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi on Sunday.
This match-week 11 loss marks Kotoko's fourth consecutive league defeat, deepening their woes this season.
Nations FC set the pace early, applying relentless pressure that yielded two first-half goals. Nafiu Sulemana capitalized on a defensive lapse to break the deadlock in the 30th minute, seizing a loose ball and sending a powerful strike past the helpless goalkeeper.
Just before halftime, Faisal Charwetey took advantage of another defensive error by Mohammed Camara, doubling Nations FC's lead in the 45th minute.
Despite Asante Kotoko's efforts to recover in the second half, including the introduction of substitutes Fernando, Albert Amoah, and Peter Amidu Acquah, they were unable to break down the visitors' resolute defense.
The hosts maintained control of possession but failed to find the back of the net, with their best chance in the first half thwarted by the woodwork when Baba Yahaya's shot hit the post in the 43rd minute.
The victory propels Nations FC to the top of the league table with 22 points, surpassing Bibiani GoldStars, who faced their first defeat of the season at the hands of Medeama SC.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko's defeat sees them slide to 8th place with 15 points after 11 matches.
Kotoko will look to end their losing streak when they visit Aduana Stars in Dormaa in match-week 12. Nations FC, on the other hand, will aim to continue their strong form when they host Berekum Chelsea next weekend.
