Four youth groups in the Ashanti Region have staged a joint demonstration against the government in the regional capital, Kumasi, dubbed ‘Asanteman Ky3fa’.

The joint group indicated that their protest is over what they termed as government’s neglect of the region in terms of development.

The protest, organised by the Asante Youth Association (AYA), Asante Development Union (ADU), Kumasi Youth Association (KUYA), and Adanse Youth Association, sought to remind the government of the need to give attention to several stalled projects in the region including the Boankra Inland project, Tepa Hospital project, KNUST Teaching Hospital project, among others.

They also complained of unfilled promises made to them by the New Patriotic Party in the lead-up to the 2016 campaign.

According to the youth, although the government enjoys massive support in the region, the area is yet to get its fair share of the national cake under an NPP government.

An executive member of the Kumasi Youth Association, Nana Yaw Ofori said they will petition the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II over the matter.

Meanwhile, the security detail at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi has been tightened with armed police officers deployed there to keep order.
