Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is expected to deliver the long-awaited final ruling in the protracted Bawku chieftaincy mediation today, Monday, December 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace.

President John Dramani Mahama entrusted the Asantehene earlier this year with leading efforts to secure a lasting resolution to the decades-old conflict. Otumfuo’s mediation began in April, when he met representatives of both factions from April 28 to 30 to reopen dialogue.

Although talks were briefly halted, they resumed on May 13, during which the Asantehene noted that the process had contributed to a period of relative calm in the municipality.

Bawku has for years been gripped by recurring violence, sporadic attacks, curfews, and deeply strained community relations—conditions that have disrupted daily life and drawn national attention to the urgent need for sustainable peace.

According to the Manhyia Palace, today’s hearing marks the culmination of months of intense consultations and peace-building efforts.

Many residents and stakeholders are hopeful that Otumfuo’s final pronouncement will provide a decisive resolution, ending the cycles of violence and clearing the path for reconciliation, stability, and development in the conflict-affected area.
