The Association of Secondhand Clothing and Shoe Sellers has passionately appealed to delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to throw their weight behind Ghana’s former Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

Describing Dr. Adutwum as the most suitable candidate for the party’s leadership, the traders praised his humility, visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment to national development.

They believe his exemplary performance at the Ministry of Education—highlighted by the introduction of key reforms such as STEM and TVET—positions him as the ideal leader to secure victory for the NPP in 2028.

Speaking to journalists during a press conference, the group, made up of staunch NPP members, stated that Dr. Adutwum stands head and shoulders above other contenders in terms of political competence and dedication to national service.

Madam Georgina Adjei, a trader, highlighted how Dr. Adutwum added significant value to the Free Senior High School policy after taking over from his predecessor, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

“We need him as our flagbearer and President to restore the good image of the Free Education policy,” she appealed.

Echoing similar sentiments, Mr. David Osei Kuffour, an executive member of the Ashanti Secondhand Shoe Sellers Association, pointed to Dr. Adutwum’s international education ventures and notable achievements in the local education sector as proof of his readiness to lead.

He called on NPP delegates to rally behind Dr. Adutwum in the party’s upcoming presidential primary.

The NPP is expected to hold its National Delegates Conference to elect a flagbearer in January 2026. So far, notable personalities who have declared their intent include Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, and Hon. Bryan Acheampong.
