Obuase Ashanti Gold are stranded at Malabo International Airport, ghanaguardian has gathered.

It comes just 48 hours before their CAF Confederation Cup clash against Equitoguinean side Akonangui F.C
The miners left Ghana on Wednesday with a 24-man contingent for Sunday's encounter to be staged at the Neuvo Estadio de Ebebiyín  in the northeastern town of Ebibeyin.

It is not yet known what might have accounted for delay of the Ghanaian side to rich the host town, which is 335 kilometres (208 miles) from the capital Malabo.

But according to a report by Angel FM's Fancy Di Maria, who is with the team, the home side has claimed innocence of the travelling hurdles the Ghanaian side is facing.

"AshantiGoldSC_ left stranded at the Malabo International Airport. Officials of Akonagui FC play innocent," he tweeted.

The team leave Obuasi through to Lome, where they boarded a flight to Malabo to continue their journey to Ebibeyin.

They are Ghana's sole representative in the Confederation Cup after they one the tier 2 competition of GFA Special Competition.

They will host the  five times Equatoguinean champions at the Len Clay Stadium two weeks later in the return encounter..
