Counsel for Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has described the withdrawal of a suit by incumbent MP Nii Armah Ashitey, which challenged his client’s eligibility as the Klottey Korle parliamentary nominee for the governing National Democratic Congress as good news.
Mr Ashitey resorted to the court to challenge the eligibility of Dr Agyeman-Rawlings after she defeated him in the primary, arguing that she was not a registered voter at the time of the internal polls.
After months of legal tussle, the Supreme Court on Monday July 18 cleared Dr Agyeman-Rawlings to hold herself out as the parliamentary nominee of the NDC in the constituency.
Mr Ashitey on Wednesday August 3, in a notice filed by his lawyer Gary Nimako Marfo, indicated that he was discontinuing the suit he had filed at the High Court.
Speaking to Class News, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings’ lawyer, Mr Godfred Tameklo, said the suit would not have seen any better outcome at the High Court if the MP had pursued it.
“The moment the Supreme Court delivered its [judgment] in favour of Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, there was no basis a High Court judge could overturn a decision of the Supreme Court. So, it was the inevitable thing to have happened,” he explained.
