It has been a difficult season for Kumasi Asante Kotoko on the field of play as the team failed to win a single trophy and ended the season empty handed.

Kotoko were beaten to the league trophy by sworn rivals Accra Hearts of Oak while they were also knocked out of the MTN FA Cup at the semi final stage.

Many have attributed the club's below par performance to a lot of issues but assistant coach of the team, Johnson Smith has added his voice.

He has blamed the team's poor showing on the low quality players currently present in the team.

The former Karela United coach was appointed as a stop gap coach when his boss Maxwell Konadu was sacked in December 2020 before a substantive coach was appointed at the beginning of the second round.

Speaking in an interview on West Gold FM in Takoradi, he says that there are only four outfield players who are fit to play for Kotoko as the team has a lot of chaff.

“If I'm to be allowed to do my own recruitment and accessment with this current Kotoko team, only four (4) of the current players excluding the goalkeepers will stay."
