Member of Parliament for Assin South, Hon. Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has criticized President John Mahama, accusing him of tacitly endorsing the actions of a same-sex couple who recently took photographs at Ghana’s iconic Independence Square.

Speaking in reaction to the viral images, Rev. Fordjour argued that if the President truly disapproved of the act, he would have publicly condemned it. According to him, Mahama’s silence amounts to implicit approval.

“If the President disapproved, we would have seen an official statement by now. His failure to speak out is deeply concerning,” the MP said.

Rev. Fordjour further suggested that no previous Ghanaian president would have allowed such “a public display of disrespect” without taking action. He contrasted the current situation with the “Year of Return” initiative under former President Nana Akufo-Addo, claiming that despite the influx of diasporans during that period, no such incident occurred.

“This is only happening under President Mahama’s watch,” he added, implying that the current leadership is creating an environment permissive of what he describes as unacceptable acts.

His remarks come amid broader national discussions around LGBTQ+ rights and public morality, issues that remain highly contentious in Ghanaian society.
