Thomas Partey provided an assist and put up yet another masterclass of a performance as Atlético Madrid cruised to a 2-0 win over Getafe.

The 25 year old was involved in everything good that Atletico produced on Saturday, industrious in midfield and with an eye for a good pass, he is surely one of the more underrated players in Spain this season.

His through ball on 27 minutes unlocked Griezmann to make a run into the box, and he held off two defenders to slot the opener past David Soria.

The Ghanaian has now registered as many assists this season (5) as in his previous three seasons (6).

Ten minutes later, Partey was heavily involved again as Saúl doubled the lead.  The Black Stars midfielder played a ball over the top that caught Lucas perfectly on his run, and the Frenchman played a good low cross to Nikola Kalinić. The Croatian’s shot was right at Soria, but Geta’s keeper could not handle the rebound and Saúl clipped the ball into the net.

The away side huffed and puffed but were unable to break down a resilient Atletico side, their misery compounded in the 88th minute as Djene was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence - before Leandro Cabrera was sent for a marginally early shower in injury time.

The win sees Simeone's side temporarily move to within two points of LaLiga leaders Barcelona ahead of the Blaugrana's trip to Girona on Sunday.
