The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Otchere Baafi, has called on delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to throw their full support behind former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s crucial flagbearer election on 31 January 2026.

Speaking in Koforidua, Otchere Baafi described the upcoming primary as one of the most significant internal contests in the party’s history. He stressed that the NPP requires a candidate who is experienced, well-known, and capable of leading the party back to power in the 2028 general election.
“The 31 January election is not a joke. It is crucial, and we need an experienced person. We need someone who has been well-marketed and is well known by Ghanaians. That person is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he said.

Highlighting Dr. Bawumia’s steadfast commitment during challenging times, the MP noted that he stands out among the five contenders, including Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.

Otchere Baafi also emphasised the importance of grassroots mobilisation, urging polling station executives and local party members to work together to secure a strong outcome for the NPP.
“Politics is local, so the responsibility lies with all of us at the polling station level. It is a collective effort. Let us come together and work hard for the NPP to reclaim power. And the only person who can help us win easily is the experienced and well-marketed Dr Bawumia,” he added.

He concluded with optimism, asserting that unified backing for Dr. Bawumia would be key to the party’s success in the next general election.
