Following his emphatic win in the New Patriotic Party’s 2026 presidential primaries, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has outlined a unifying and inclusive approach to leadership, vowing to heal internal divisions and mobilise the party for a strong return to power in the 2028 general elections.

Addressing party supporters and executives at his Tse Addo residence in Accra on Monday, January 2, the newly elected flagbearer stressed that cohesion within the NPP remains the foundation for electoral success, insisting that resolving internal disagreements would significantly boost the party’s chances at the polls.

Dr Bawumia, who secured 56.48 per cent of valid votes in the tightly contested primary, said his focus going forward would be on rebuilding party structures across the country and drawing together supporters of all aspirants into one formidable campaign force.

Since his victory was declared, his home has become a centre of political engagement, hosting senior party figures, grassroots supporters and former contenders who have come to congratulate him and pledge their backing. Among those who paid courtesy calls were Kwabena Agyei Agyepong and former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, both of whom reaffirmed their commitment to working with him toward the party’s 2028 goal.

Reflecting on the results, Dr Bawumia described the outcome as a significant improvement over his previous primary performance, highlighting broader constituency wins as evidence of growing support within the party.

Support has also poured in from the parliamentary front, with the Minority Caucus led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin visiting the flagbearer to assure him of their readiness to champion his vision in Parliament and on the national stage.

The January 31, 2026 primaries saw Dr Bawumia emerge ahead of Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, setting the stage for an intensive campaign as the NPP positions itself for the 2028 general elections.
