Thousands of Muslims in and around Walewale joined the Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for Jummah prayers and the commissioning of a new mosque.
It was a special and an historic day for the indigens, as the ultra-modern, magnificent mosque he facilitated was opened to the public.
And for the first time, Jummah prayers were said off the old Walewale Central mosque thad served the indigens for decades.
Dr. Bawumia, together with Imams and traditional rulers, cut the sod for the commissioning, before making the historic steps to inspect the mosque ahead of the Friday congregational prayers.
Within minutes, the mosque was filled to capacity as both men and women occupied their respective sections of the mosque.
The ecstatic indigens who stormed the commissioning ceremony were so huge that many could not have access inside the mosque, and had to pray observe the Jummah prayers outside.
Special prayers were said for Dr. Bawumia, for his benevolence and support to the community, with many praying for Allah to grant him victory in nect month's presidential election.
The new mosque iss fitted with modern facilities for both men and women section, ablution area, as well as offices for the Imam.
With a huge Muslim population in and around the Walewale township, the magnificent mosque, construction of which started a few years ago, has been expanded to provide enough space for the town's growing population.
Vice President Bawumia has over the years extended support to the Zongo and Muslim community in various forms, including personally funding the construction and renovation of mosques and schools across the country.
Eventhough a Muslim, Dr. Bawumia has also notably extended strong support in various forms, including personal contributions towards building and renovation of Chapels and schools, and other programmes of the Christian community.
