Government has hinted of a possible reintroduction of road tolls in Ghana less than three (3) months after its abolishment.

Mr. Kwasi Amoako-Attah, the Minister of Roads and Highways, has indicated the circumstances of the situation on the grounds in the future will determine if road tolls will be reintroduced.

The government abolished the road toll in November last year after the presentation of the 2022 budget statement by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta

But at a Town Hall Meeting on E-Levy in Koforidua on Thursday, January 27, 2022, the Finance Minister hinted that “road toll may come” as some major roads in the country are expanded into six lanes and dual carriage roads.

In a Facebook post reacting to the Finance Minister's comments, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, former Communications Minister in the erstwhile John Mahama administration, remarked that government should engage in broader consultation when taking such crucial decisions.

He simply wrote, "Before you say 'I do'..."
